Our September 2022 Home of the Month is located at 4637 West 69th Terrace.
The Prothe Family moved to Prairie Village in 2003 and initially lived in their house as a rental. They had just moved back to Kansas City with their two young children Paige (2) and Chace (4). They were able to eventually purchase their home, raising two great kids in it (who have since moved out of state).
Sharon Prothe shares details on the major improvements they’ve made over the years. “The most recent improvements are the most exciting to the practical person in the household – new concrete driveway, exterior paint, updated HVAC, larger hot water heater, garage door with a keypad (I am not sure how we lived without it all these years!), and rebuilt entry steps and dormer.
“We took advantage of already having the concrete truck here, so we extended the entrance on Roe to become more welcoming, and replaced and extended the backyard patio. This somehow remedied our ground squirrel problem, an extra bonus! Stay tuned for the inside improvements as we prepare for our empty nest main floor living phase.”
The Prothes love Prairie Village because it’s so walkable and friendly. It’s meaningful to see the same familiar faces when out walking their dogs or coming upon a sign in someone’s yard announcing, IT’S A GIRL. “The mature trees, Prairie Village Art Show, supporting locally owned businesses, and the ability for our kids to walk or ride their bikes to school safely, are just a few special things that come to mind when we think about how fortunate we are to call this community home,” notes Sharon. “One small way we have tried giving back is that we’ve had a bowl of ‘DOG WATER FREE’ on the corner for over 10 years!”
